Make sure you take part in the consultation on Pendle’s draft Local Plan
Published: Tuesday, 27th June 2023
Local people are urged to have their say on the draft Local Plan for Pendle – a blueprint for future development for the borough.
An eight-week public consultation has been launched by Pendle Borough Council and is open until 5pm on Friday 18 August.
Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “We want your views on how we propose to manage development and growth in Pendle up to 2040.
“We want to make Pendle a better place for you and your children, so it’s important we work together to get it right!
“The planning policies in the Plan tell developers what we expect them to provide in their developments.
“It also helps the Council to decide whether to approve or refuse applications for planning permission.
“These drop-in sessions are a great opportunity for residents and businesses to put forward your comments, ask questions and find out how to respond.
“Please take this opportunity to have your say!”
You can find out more about what’s in the draft Local Plan and have your say at drop-in sessions which are taking place throughout July.

Councillor Tom Whipp, Executive Portfolio Holder for Planning, said: “The Government requires us to prepare a Local Plan.
“It looks at our development needs for at least the next 15 years and considers the local issues that are most important to us.
“Our Local Plan reflects the unique character and needs of Pendle and our communities.
“Our vision establishes what we would like Pendle to look like by 2040 and we have come up with a number of strategic objectives to help us achieve this vision.”
Neil Watson, Assistant Director of Planning, Building Control and Regulatory Services, added: “A large amount of evidence has helped us to prepare our draft plan.
“We now need your local knowledge to make sure our proposals give you what you need and what you want to see.
“We’d love to hear your thoughts on topics such as housing, the local economy, the natural and historic environment and the climate emergency.
“All the comments we receive during the consultation will be carefully considered before our final draft is published.”
