Pendle Borough Council is reviewing its Alcohol Control Public Spaces Protection Order and wants to hear from you.

The Council’s current order expires in October and councillors can agree to extend it for up to three years after reviewing and consulting on it.

It will look at whether alcohol control has changed since the last review in 2020 and whether some of the boundaries should be extended into other parts of the borough.

The order currently covers:

  • Barnoldswick town centre, Victory Park and Letcliffe Park in Barnoldswick
  • Barrowford town centre
  • Colne town centre and Linden Road eastwards to Carry Lane
  • Earby town centre and Sough Park
  • Nelson town centre

Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “As part of our review we’ll be looking at whether there is evidence to support if the protection order is still needed.

“We want to hear from local people about whether carrying alcohol in the street is still an issue.

“Is alcohol-related nuisance and disorder still an issue? Are young people with alcohol in public places a problem?”

Tim Horsley, Pendle Borough Council’s Community Protection Coordinator, added: “We want to understand if the order works as a deterrent role and whether local people would still like the Police to be able to use it to deal with street drinking.

“We want your views – but you only have until Monday 17 July.”

Additional areas for consideration in the order include:

  • from The Muni Theatre to Pendle Leisure Centre in Colne
  • Swinden Playing Fields in Nelson
  • Extending the Nelson boundary at Leeds Road to include Walton Street
  • Bullholme Playing Fields in Barrowford

Councillor Dorothy Lord, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, added: “If there is still a problem on Pendle’s streets, this is an ideal opportunity for residents to let us know so we can do something about it.

“I would urge people to get in touch with their comments by Monday 17 July by emailing  asb@pendle.gov.uk”
