Enter Nelson Town Deal’s photography competition to capture the people and places in the town.

Nelson Town Deal is an exciting 10-year plan to breathe new life into the town, designed to raise living standards, create jobs, improve workforce skills, boost transport and broadband connections, create community hubs and improve cultural opportunities.

The competition will run from Monday 19 June to Friday 11 August 2023.

Whether you are a seasoned photographer or simply enjoy snapping pictures on your phone while out and about, we welcome you to submit your best shots that capture Nelson’s people and places.

People of all ages are invited to participate, with categories for photographers aged 15 and under, 16-24 year olds and over 25s.

So, get your cameras ready and start exploring the town to gather some spectacular photography!

The winners from each age group will receive a £50 voucher to spend on photography equipment at Tiny Pixels Kodak Express in Nelson. Second place runners-up from each category will receive a £30 voucher and third place runners-up will receive a £20 voucher of their choice.

Images will be judged by an independent panel of judges selected by the Nelson Town Deal committee. Winning images will be featured on the Nelson Town Deal website and social media channels.

Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council and Nelson Town Deal board member, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the borough’s residents to go out and capture the people and places of Nelson.

“We want to see some great examples of community spirit. Celebrate all that’s wonderful and diverse about our town, as well as its rich history and friendly, welcoming and vibrant people.

“It will be wonderful to see locals out exploring Nelson, using their cameras or phones to take photographs of the town in all its splendour and enter the competition. I look forward to seeing their work.”

Stephen Barnes, Chair of Nelson Town Deal, added: “Nelson Town Deal is all about improving the town for its residents and visitors and it will be fascinating to see what people capture and think is great about the town and its people.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to display their talent, inspire others and maybe even win a prize!”

Rules include:

· One entry per person

· Photographs must be taken of a Nelson place or person

· Photographs must have been taken this year (2023)
