A £2m pot of money to support the Nelson manufacturing sector has been granted Government backing.

The Business Resilience and Growth Project, part of the Nelson Town Deal, is one of eight projects designed to promote sustainable growth within the area, transform the town, and provide new opportunities for local people.
Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said:

“This is great news for Pendle and the project will provide much needed support to Nelson businesses.

“The Business Resilience and Growth Project is an essential component of our ambitious 10-year plan for the town and is an exciting use of the £25 million New Towns Fund that we’ve secured.”

The Business Resilience and Growth project has been designed to provide grants of up to £100,000 per eligible business.

It can be used for investment in new machinery, initiatives to lower CO2 emissions or energy consumption, and building improvements to support growth.

Mike Williams, Pendle Borough Council’s Tourism & Economic Development Officer, is the project lead.   He said:

“Now that we’ve had the green light from the Government for this project, new opportunities will be created for jobs, skills development, entrepreneurship and clean, eco-friendly sustainable growth.

“We’re keen to hear from any Nelson manufacturing businesses that have potential projects that could be supported.”

If you would like to know more about the opportunity for grant funding for your Nelson business, please contact Mike Williams at business.support@pendle.gov.uk.

Growth Lancashire has committed to providing some business support, advice, or follow-on guidance to each organisation that receives a grant within the first 18 months.

Stephen Barnes, Chair of the Nelson Town Deal Board, said:

“The benefits of these grants will be felt more widely as new machinery and adapted premises will boost productivity across the region and decarbonisation projects will result in energy savings and cleaner air.

“The Nelson Town Deal is a once in a generation opportunity for Nelson and our wider area and this project will help to make a big difference for a more sustainable economy.”
