From now until the end of November, Pendle Borough Council staff will be out hand delivering the leaflets to around 38,000 homes in Pendle and posting 2,000 out via Royal Mail.
 
All areas in Pendle will be affected by changes to collection days over the festive season so local residents will need to check their calendar so they don’t miss getting their bins emptied.

“This year’s calendar promotes foil recycling and we’re working in partnership with Alupro - a-not-for-profit organisation which represents the UK’s aluminium packaging industry.

 “Our aim is to encourage people to recycle more foil,” said Council Leader, Councillor Nadeem Ahmed.

“Things like used pie tins can be rinsed and recycled in the brown bin – they do not have to be perfectly clean,” explained David Walker, the Council’s Environmental Services Manager.

“We are also using the calendars to remind people about our new batteries recycling collections, which are making it easy for people to recycle more from home,” he said.

Small household batteries can be put in a clear bag on top of the blue or brown recycling bin with more details on the Council’s website: www.pendle.gov.uk/batteries

Over 1.5 tonnes of batteries have been recycled from people’s homes so far.

“Please keep your calendar when you get it as it shows what you can and can’t recycle and what goes in which bin, added David.

“One of the biggest problems we have is people putting plastic bags into their recycling bins.

“And there are ongoing problems with people putting Tetra Paks, such as soup and milk cartons, into their blue or brown recycling bins,” he stated.
