Local park users are being asked to have their say on £840,000 proposals for Marsden, Victoria and Walverden Parks in Nelson, as part of the Healthy Town Plan.

This is one of eight projects in the Nelson Town Deal and includes funding of £250,000 from Nelson Town Council.

The Nelson Town Deal board is overseeing an exciting 10 year plan to support transformation in the town with wider benefits for the whole of Pendle.

A total of £25 million investment has been earmarked from the Government’s new Towns Fund for Nelson.

Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “The Healthy Town project is designed to help address poor health and wellbeing in Nelson by making it easier for people of all ages to enjoy a more active lifestyle in three popular parks.

“We need people’s views on plans so that we can move forward quickly when we get the green light from the Government’s Towns Fund for £590,000,” he explained.

“It’s crucial that these parks provide the maximum benefit to our community.
“The only way we can do that is by hearing what people would like to see included in the plans.”

Phil Riley, the Council’s Green Spaces Manager said: “We’ve organised six open door events in November so that local people can call in and look at the proposals for improvement on display and have their say.

“We’re keen for people to ask questions and give us feedback and these events are vital in deciding the final designs for the different schemes."
Councillor Zafar Ali, Chairman of Nelson Town Council Finance Committee and Town Deal Board member, added:
“We are investing in our parks and plans include creating better playgrounds and new facilities so that more activities can take place in them.

“An attractive new shelter by the lake in Victoria Park is planned and there are proposals for better park seating and other improvements in our parks.

“I urge the whole town to get behind the project!”

“This project will dovetail with a range of Nelson Town Deal initiatives which focus on regeneration, skills and enterprise, health and wellbeing and pride in place.

“This is an exciting time as Nelson Town Deal projects get underway!

“They have the power to transform our area with wider benefits all Pendle residents can enjoy,” he added.
