“We have piloted the scheme successfully in Nelson and 15 cafes and takeaways have the bronze award so far and many are moving up to silver!”

Businesses which got their award this October include Mansha Sweet Centre in Nelson which offers salads and grilled food as healthier options.
 
And Loaves & Fishes Community Café in Barnoldswick offers home-made dishes including vegan and vegetarian options and they don’t serve chips.
 
The Recipe 4 Health scheme rewards food businesses which offer a range of healthier snacks and meals, including salads, food with lower salt and sugar, grilled dishes, smaller portions and water as an option if people want to avoid sugary fizzy drinks.

Jamal Dermott from Lancashire County Council who is helping to expand the scheme in Pendle said:

“We are urging food businesses to sign up to the scheme which has many free benefits.

“These include free publicity, a listing on the Council’s website, a free masterclass and the potential to win a food contract worth up to £7,000 for the Pendle Holiday Activities and Food for children during school holidays.
