Colne 21s football team represented Pendle in an exciting ‘No limits to fair play’ friendly match in Marl, our twin town, this season.

At Marl’s invitation, the Pendle and Marl football teams trained together, had a session on fair play, ending in a friendly match.

Marl kindly provided accommodation, meals and a varied programme.  Colne 21s did some fundraising towards travel costs and Pendle Twinning Association also contributed towards these travel costs.

The Mayor of Pendle, Councillor Yasser Iqbal, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Marl for making our young team of footballers so welcome for this ‘No limits to fair play’ friendly match.

“I understand it was an exciting game ending 10 – 2 to Colne!

“We would also like to thank Colne 21s for representing Pendle in such a positive way.”

Peter Ellis, Colne 21s coach, thanked Pendle Twinning Association. He said: “The whole experience was a memory to cherish for myself and the lads.

“Our new friends in Germany will never be forgotten. Events like this allow young and old minds to be open.

“Once again thank you all for the wonderful work and opportunity we were given.”

Judith David, Vice-Chair of Pendle Twinning Association, who accompanied the Colne 21s to Marl, said: “Pendle Twinning Association are delighted to have supported this fantastic Pendle-Marl Twin Towns football event for young people.”

The next meeting of Pendle Twinning Association will be at 5.30pm on Wednesday 19 October at Nelson Town Hall.

Prospective new members would be very welcome to attend.
