Older people from across Pendle are being invited to book tickets for The Mayor’s annual Christmas gatherings.

Tickets for the Mayor’s Bit of A Do at Colne Muni are £9 – the same price as last year - and include a pre-lunch drink.

They can be reserved from Monday 31 October onwards by calling (01282) 661569 between 9am and 12 noon Monday to Friday.

This year’s celebrations are on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 December with Tuesday’s do for people in nursing and care homes and Wednesday’s event open to all older people in Pendle.

The events, including a Christmas lunch and live entertainment, start at 11.45am and end around 3.15pm.

The Worshipful the Mayor of Pendle, Councillor Rosemary Carroll said: “Christmas is a wonderful time to gather together with friends and like-minded people to toast the season and share some festive entertainment.

“As well as turkey with all the trimmings, ‘A Bit Of A Do’ offers some first class entertainment.”

Duo singers the Jukebox Heroes and vocalist Johnny Bevan will be on stage with Johnny acting as compere to add a touch of comedy to the event.

And instrumentalist Colin Whittaker will be providing some background music and a festive ambience during the Christmas dinner.

“The Mayoress and I are looking forward to these two Christmas lunches and sharing the Christmas spirit with older people in Pendle,” said Councillor Carroll.

A Christmas raffle will be held with all proceeds going to the Mayor’s chosen charities.

These are Pendle's branch of the Samaritans, based in Nelson, Pendle Dogs In Need, Homestart and Pendle Women's Refuge.

Councillor Carroll added: “I expect the events will be as popular as they have been in previous years, and would urge anyone who’d like to come to reserve their tickets as soon as possible."

Anyone with special dietary needs shouldn’t worry as there will be a suitable alternative on offer - please ask about this when you ring to book your tickets.
