Residents in part of West Craven have the chance to vote on whether to adopt the Kelbrook and Sough Neighbourhood Plan in a public referendum on Thursday 27 October.

The Neighbourhood Plan will allow the local community to influence planning decisions that affect their area.

The Plan has been prepared by Kelbrook and Sough Parish Council and approved, with minor modifications, by an independent examiner.

Neil Watson, Planning, Economic Development and Regulatory Services Manager, said: “If the plan is adopted it will become an important part of how decisions are made on developments.

“I would encourage everyone to have their say on it in the referendum in late October.”

“Anyone registered to vote in the area covered by the Kelbrook and Sough Neighbourhood Plan can vote.”

Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, added: “The Plan’s vision is to maintain the unique character of the villages in the Parish as well as protecting the landscape and rural environment.”

Voting takes place on Thursday 27 October when residents in the Kelbrook and Sough Parish will be asked to answer yes or no to the question:

Do you want Pendle Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Kelbrook and Sough to help it decide planning applications in the Neighbourhood Area?

A simple majority of the votes cast will see the Plan either adopted or rejected.

Copies of the Plan and supporting documents are available to view on Pendle Borough Council’s website – www.pendle.gov.uk/ksndp

They are also available to view at the following venues during their usual opening hours:

·       Kelbrook & Sough Village Hall

·       Earby Library

·       Barnoldswick Library

·       Number One Market Street, Nelson

Voting in the referendum will be similar to voting in Pendle Borough Council elections. To be eligible to vote you must live in the Kelbrook and Sough Parish and be registered to vote.

If you are already registered to vote, you do not need to register again to vote in the referendum.

For anyone who wants to register to vote, the deadline is Tuesday 11 October. You can do this via the Council’s website – www.pendle.gov.uk/vote
