This has been declared a bank holiday across the UK to allow individuals, businesses and other organisations to pay their respects to Her Majesty.

Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “It’s important that we allow our staff to come together with family to mark the passing of Her Majesty the Queen.

“That means we will not be collecting waste and recycling on Monday 19 September for residents and businesses.

“If your collection day is Monday, we will be coming on Saturday 17 September to collect refuse, garden waste and commercial waste.

“We will be collecting paper and cardboard on Saturday 24 September.

“Help us to spread the word to friends and neighbours so that everyone affected can put their bins out if a collection is needed."

Remember to put your bins out by 6.30am on the day of your collection or the night before.

Household Waste Recycling Centres in Lancashire will be closed for the day and will reopen on Tuesday 20 September.

At 8pm on Sunday 18 September the Council is taking part in the National Moment of Reflection to pay their respects to Her Majesty the Queen.

Local people are invited to join representatives from the Council, including Deputy Mayor Councillor Brian Newman, at the cenotaph next to Nelson Town Hall for a minute’s silence.

Please arrive by 7.55pm.

The silence can also be marked privately from home, with friends and family, out on doorsteps or the street with neighbours.

The Council is also encouraging Pendle residents to share their memories and feelings in books of condolence or to post a message online.

• Nelson Town Hall – open 9am – 5pm Monday - Thursday and 9.00am – 4.45pm on Friday
• Number One Market Street – Contact Pendle centre - open as above
• Nelson Library – open Monday 9am – 5pm, Tuesday 9am – 7pm Wednesday, closed, Thursday 9am – 5pm, Friday & Saturday 9am – 1pm, Sunday closed
• Colne Town Hall – open 10am - 4pm
• Brierfield Library  - open Monday and Thursday 9am – 5pm, Tuesday 9am – 7pm,  Friday and Saturday 9.00am – 1.00 p.m.   Closed on Wednesday and Sunday
• Barnoldswick Civic Hall – open 9am - 6pm Monday to Friday

The books of condolence close at 5pm on Tuesday 20 September.

Union flags are being flown at half-mast on Nelson, Colne and Brierfield Town Halls and Barnoldswick Civic Hall throughout the period of National Mourning.
