In December 2021, the Council asked for your views – the good, the bad, the positive and the gripes - through its Life in Pendle survey.

Some of the headline findings include:

• three in five residents are satisfied with their local area
• countryside and open spaces, clean streets and public spaces are most important
• one in five residents feel unsafe in their local area, rising to one in three in Nelson
• Pendle residents are most likely to say cleaner streets and a greater police presence would improve their local area.

The Council has just launched a survey called This is Pendle and it’s urging local people to get involved and help shape its latest plan which will run until 2027.

Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “We face some tough choices for Pendle and it’s important that we are able to make these choices together.

“Thank you to everyone who took part in our Life in Pendle survey.

“We now want to know more about what you think of your local area and find out what ideas you may have to improve the Borough.

“Through the online survey you can share your 'Postcard of Pendle' and what the area means to you, read about some of Pendle’s challenges and show how you would spend money across our different services.”

The online survey should only take 10 minutes to complete and as a thank you, you can enter to win £100 Pendle Leisure Trust voucher.

For anyone who would like to have their say in person, the Council is working with In-Situ and has been taking to the streets of Pendle’s towns and villages.

Paul Hartley, who leads on organisation and engagement for In-Situ, said: “Come and join us so that you can chalk up your thoughts on a slate board, air your thoughts on a washing line, write poems and get a town crier to call out your hopes, fears, and ideas!

“Thank you to everyone who has taken part in our sessions so far – we’ve had some really interesting conversations and look forward to more at our sessions in Nelson and Barley.”

In-Situ will be at:

• Nelson Food Festival on Saturday 10 September, 11-4pm
• Barley picnic site on Sunday 11 September,  11am-3pm

Paul added: “All of your feedback will feed into a week-long tour of Talkaoke events across Pendle, where you can come along and dig deeper into the local issues important to you.  

“These sessions will take place from Sunday 18 September – Friday 23 September and you need to book a place!”

Talkaoke is an open and vibrant format for more lively debate where everyone gets a chance to have their say.

The Talkaoke sessions are taking place on: 

• Sunday 18 September - 1-3.30pm at The Garage, Brierfield 
• Monday 19 September – 6.30pm – 9pm at Barnoldswick Civic Hall  
• Tuesday 20 September – 7pm – 9.30pm at Unity Wellbeing Centre, Nelson 
• Thursday 22 September, 6.30pm – 9pm at Colne Town Hall 
• Friday 23 September, 12.30pm – 3pm at Barley Village Hall
