The Town Council has submitted formal notification to Pendle Council stating its intention to prepare a neighbourhood plan.

The first stage in this process is to consult on the proposed boundary for the neighbourhood plan area and confirm that Colne Town Council is considered to be an appropriate body to prepare the plan.

Councillor Julie Henderson who leads on Planning for Pendle, explained: “Local people have new rights to help shape development in their areas by drawing up planning policies to guide the development and use of land in their neighbourhoods.

“The consultation does not address the content of the proposed neighbourhood plan, but provides an opportunity for members of the public and other key stakeholders to comment on the suitability of the proposed neighbourhood area boundary and the neighbourhood planning body for Colne.”

The consultation runs until Friday 11th November 2016.

Information is available on Pendle Council’s website - www.pendle.gov.uk/neighbourhood plans or can be viewed at the following places during their normal opening hours:

• Colne Public Library, Market Street, Colne
• Number One Market Street, Nelson

Comments should be submitted in writing:

If approved, the next step for Colne Town Council will be to prepare a Neighbourhood Plan, with the help of the local community.

Once adopted a Neighbourhood Plan becomes a statutory planning document, which means that it will be considered by planning officers when determining any planning applications in Colne.
