Pendle Parks bid to Government to help create a Healthy Town.

Three parks have been chosen to benefit from £590,000 funding as part of a project designed to help address poor health and wellbeing in the town’s community including childhood obesity.
Pendle Council gave the green light to the Healthy Town plan on Thursday 22 July.
The business case will now go to the Government for approval to release the funding as one of eight exciting new projects including a new Digital Skills Academy, with more details on www.nelsontowndeal.co.uk
In addition, Nelson Town Council is providing £250,000 of funding to improve the parks and Pendle Council’s Environmental Services is contributing £2,500.
Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, explained:
“This major funding will transform our town and provide new opportunities for local people through £25 million of New Towns Fund investment.
“Nelson’s parks are a huge asset for Pendle as a whole and we’re immensely grateful to Nelson Town Council for providing extra funding to make a bigger difference.
“If we get the go ahead from the Government, our plans to improve Marsden, Victoria and Walverden Parks with new facilities and activities can forge ahead.
“People of all ages will be able to enjoy a more active lifestyle in our parks.
“And plans include a better environment for health and wellbeing including opportunities to enjoy the benefits of volunteering.”
Stephen Barnes, Chair of the Nelson Town Deal Board said:
“We are optimistic that our bid to the Government will mean our parks can play an even bigger role in improving the health of Pendle people.
“This project will dovetail with a range of existing initiatives in our area which focus on health, wellbeing and pride in place.
