Colne Grand Prix video premieres ahead of high speed race night

A new video has been launched ahead of the Fort Vale Colne Grand Prix cycle race and is rolling on Colne Town Council’s and Pendle Borough Council’s Facebook pages.
The high powered event takes place on Tuesday 26 July with racing from 6.30pm around one of the toughest circuits in the national men’s elite series.
For the first time, talented up and coming men and women cyclists will be competing at the same time in the Riggs Autopack Sprint for Success race.
And young male and female riders in under 14 and under 16 categories will compete in the Coalition Facilities Management Youth Race to power up the evening’s racing.
The video includes clips of adrenaline fuelled racing from the 2019 event and features the key people involved in making the event a success.

The timetable for race night is:
- Coalition Facilities Management Youth Race: 18:30
- Riggs Autopack Sprint for Success: 19:10
- Fort Vale Colne Grand Prix: 20:00
Councillor Mary Thomas is Chair of Colne Town Council which organises race night. She said:
“It’s the first time we’ve done a video and it really captures the excitement!
“The short three minute film will remind spectators what they have to look forward to after a three-year gap.
“Colne will be taking centre stage for three races and we’re urging people to walk in or park outside the circuit and come and be a part of a free night out with an amazing atmosphere.”
Andrew Bishop, General Manager of Riggs Autopack which is sponsoring the Sprint for Success said:
“We're in that unique position in the middle of race night with a sprint which is now for men and women cyclists.
“It should make for an interesting challenge which will be great to watch - it’s going to be very competitive!”
Paul Whittaker, who cycles for Pendle Forest Cycling Club and is involved in race night, said:
“It’s a fantastic race to watch because it’s one of the smallest circuits in the UK elite series.
“It makes for really fast, tight racing so you get a bit of an arena atmosphere with speeds on the finishing straight getting up to around 50mph!
Kelly Armstrong is Manager of the Wilson Fort Sports Centre at the headline sponsor’s HQ agreed, saying:
“The sheer speed that the cyclists go at around such a tightly-packed circuit is unbelievable.
“We can’t wait to be back!”
