Pendle gardeners who have their garden waste collected by Pendle Borough Council need to sign up for the fortnightly service by this Friday 10 June so as not to miss any collections.

The current scheme ends on 30 June and the new scheme starts from 1 July.

Gardeners are being urged to visit  www.pendle.gov.uk/gardenwaste  to pay their annual fee.

Anyone not already on the recycling scheme can look into joining.

Keen gardener David Lambert of Barrowford has been helping to promote garden waste recycling.  He said:

“I get a lot out of gardening and having my garden waste collected  is a big help.”

Council leader, Councillor Nadeem Ahmed said:

“I’d like to thank over 8,000 gardeners who recycle their garden waste through our popular green bin scheme.

“They are helping us reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfill.”

David Walker, the Council’s Environmental Services Manager, said:

“Last year our crews collected over 2,800 tonnes of garden waste which was made into compost – an increase of 12% on the previous year!”

The period covered by the £37 annual subscription is from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023.

“At just over £2 per collection, it’s a cost-effective and eco-friendly way to recycle your garden waste,” said David.

“There are no collections in December, January and February as we found that few people used the service over the winter,” he explained.

Gardeners on the scheme are also being asked to check what they can and can’t put into their green bin by visiting the Council’s website  www.pendle.gov.uk/gardenwaste

And the website includes eco-friendly gardening advice including how to collect water and water at the right times of day and tips on how gardening can support wildlife.
