Pendle is taking part in national Volunteers’ Week from 1 – 7 June to thank those who make a big difference and to encourage more people to volunteer.

Pendle Borough Council Leader, Councillor Nadeem Ahmed said:

“It's a chance to recognise the fantastic contribution volunteers make to our communities and say thank you.

“During an exceptionally difficult couple of years, people from across Pendle have taken the time to volunteer in our community.”

This year, Volunteers’ Week coincides with HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday.

The Mayor of Pendle, Cllr. Yasser Iqbal, will be attending The Queen’s Jubilee Celebration by Pendle’s Armed Forces Support Group on Saturday 4th June 2022.

The Armed Forces Support Group are all volunteers.

He will meet cadets and veterans and he said:

“I would like to take this opportunity during Volunteers’ Week to thank Pendle’s volunteers for the wonderful contribution they make to our Borough.

“’It is important to highlight the contribution Pendle’s volunteers make serving our community.

“And it’s especially fitting to recognise it during HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday as we mark and celebrate The Queen’s 70 years of service to the nation,” he added.

Eight of our wonderful parks in Pendle have volunteer groups that dedicate their time and energy into caring for and improving their local park and we have several nature reserves too.

Anyone interested in offering a helping hand is welcome to join a Friends of the Parks group and give as much or as little time as you can offer.

If you or someone you know might be interested, email the Council on parks@pendle.gov.uk

Pick Up For Pendle is also actively looking for volunteers to help out with weekly litter picking days across Pendle’s green spaces. For more details, you can find them on Facebook or email petersmith.pendle@gmail.com
