If the answer is yes, Pendle Borough Council wants to hear from you on its latest consultation. 

Following on from last year’s consultation on an updated Public Space Protection Order for parks and sports grounds, it has launched a new public consultation on a Protection Order for dog fouling, children’s play areas and cemeteries in Pendle.   

This Protection Order was put in place six years ago, extended three years ago and is now up for renewal for a further three years. 

The Order: 

• makes anyone walking dogs in any space accessible to the public responsible for picking up their dog’s poo 
• allows only one dog, which must be on a lead, per person to be taken into any of the Council’s cemeteries  
• bans dogs and smoking in children’s play areas 
• bans dogs from a number of war memorials and memorial gardens. 

Anyone who doesn’t comply with Protection Orders can be issued with a £100 fixed penalty notice or be prosecuted by Pendle Borough Council. 

Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “We’re continuing to keep public spaces clean and safe places for everyone to enjoy. 

“Please don’t confuse this consultation with the one we launched at the end of last year about parks and sports grounds. 

“If you use any public spaces, memorial gardens, children’s play areas or cemeteries, have your say before the consultation closes on Friday 10 June.”

Once the public consultation period is over, the proposed extension and any new proposals will go to Pendle Borough Council’s Area Committees and the Policy and Resources Committee for approval in July 2022.
