Be ready to use your vote

Be ready to use your vote

With just days until the Pendle Borough Council elections, residents are being urged to be ready to vote on Thursday 5 May.

Polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm.

Those who’ve registered to vote have been sent a poll card which states where their polling station is. This information is also on the Council’s website – www.pendle.gov.uk/elections

Residents who live in Brierfield West and Reedley Ward or Fence and Higham Ward won't receive a poll card because there are no local elections taking place in these wards this year.

Andrea Mullin, Elections and Registration Manager, said: “It’s important that you check your poll card because your polling station may have changed since the last election.

“You don’t need your poll card to vote – you can just give your name and address when you arrive.

“And if you need any help because you’ve never voted before, our friendly polling station staff will be happy to help you.”

Philip Mousdale, Pendle Borough Council’s Returning Officer, stressed: “Please don’t come to the polling station if you have Covid-19 symptoms.

“Anyone who develops symptoms has up to 5pm on polling day to apply for an emergency proxy vote.

“This allows you to nominate someone you trust to vote on your behalf.”

You can request an emergency proxy vote by emailing elections@pendle.gov.uk or calling (01282) 661662.

Those voting in person are encouraged to keep a safe distance from others and clean their hands when entering and leaving the polling station.

Andrea added: "Voters who have opted to vote by post must return your postal ballot pack by 10pm on Thursday 5 May.

"They can be handed in at your polling station if you don’t have time to return it by post."
