Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said:

“We’ve organised a drop-in session this Friday 18 March, 10am - 2pm, to encourage local people to have their say on plans for a more accessible Nelson.

“This is a great opportunity for people to help us improve the routes into and through Nelson town centre.

“We also want to keep a steady flow of traffic and create a better balance for all users.

“The aim is to make these routes pedestrian and cycle-friendly as well as more attractive for all”, he added.

Anyone interested in having their say can drop in to see us at Building Bridges Office, 20 Scotland Road, Nelson, BB9 7UU on Friday 18 March between 10am and 2pm.

These plans are part of the Accessible Nelson project – one of eight projects that the Nelson Town Deal board is overseeing as part of a ten year plan for a brighter Nelson.

Our town is one of 101 towns in England to be chosen for funding from the Government’s new Towns Fund, with Nelson receiving £25m from the Fund.

Accessible Nelson is about improving traffic flow, creating a quality environment including at key gateway routes, and introducing better walking and cycling opportunities for sustainable transport.

We would like to hear your views on the plans, which include:

• Creating attractive main gateways into Nelson, including Scotland Road
• Tree planting and designs which make for a greener and more inviting town centre
• A better junction at Leeds Road
• Improvements to Manchester Road, Broadway, Railway Street, Place de Creil Sagar Street and Holme Street for cyclists and pedestrians
• Improved traffic flow in and around Nelson.

Tricia Wilson, who leads on cycling for the Council, said:

“We’d love to see local residents and stakeholders come along and look at a range of designs, and have a friendly chat about possible plans.

“Don’t worry if you can’t make it, there will be other opportunities to give your views.”
