Get your energy bill rebate quicker by opting to pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit

Published: Wednesday, 23rd February 2022

The Government has announced measures to help households with rising energy bills, including a £150 Council Tax rebate for homes in bands A-D.

It’s hoped that eligible Pendle households will receive their payment from April but the Council is still waiting for guidance from Government on this.

Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, explained: “If you pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit we will already have your bank details.

“This means we can automatically pay the money straight into your bank account.

“If we don’t have your bank details we will contact you, but we’re encouraging residents who don’t currently pay by Direct Debit to sign up to pay this way.

“That way we can get this payment to you as quickly as possible.”

It’s quick and easy to set up to pay by Direct Debit via the Council’s website.

By registering for an account or signing into Council Tax online you can opt to pay by Direct Debit.

The Council is asking people not to chase up the payment because this will slow the process down and no further details are known yet.

Councillor Ahmed added: “There will be some extra funding to help people who don’t pay Council Tax and those who are on low incomes with homes in Council Tax bands E-H.

“We will update our website with this information as soon as we have it.

“Anyone who is struggling to pay their Council Tax should contact us straight away so that we can help.”
