Residents in need, including vulnerable families, will receive help with the cost of food and heating and other essentials this winter.

It’s part of the Government’s drive to help people who need financial support as the country recovers from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Pendle’s Household Support Fund will launch in January and residents will be able to apply for help via the Council’s website.

Anyone who wants to register their interest for the Fund before it’s launched can email HouseholdSupportFund@pendle.gov.uk

At the Policy and Resources meeting on Thursday 16 December, councillors agreed how the Household Support Fund will be managed to ensure Pendle people get the support they need.

Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Council, said: “We welcome this extra support for residents who are finding it difficult to make ends meet during the colder months.

“Although the money will primarily be used to help pay for food, energy, and water bills, other costs can also be covered.

“It will provide a much needed lifeline for those who are struggling to pay for life’s essentials over winter.

“We know the pandemic has put many households under financial pressure so if you need help, please apply when the Fund opens in January.”

Lancashire County Council received £9.678m which has been distributed to councils across the county. Pendle Council’s share is £270,000.

As well as payments to households, the Fund will support Pendle’s food banks which can access a grant to increase their food stock.

Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale CVS will distribute the funds on behalf of Pendle Council.

Payments are expected to range from £100 to £400 depending on a household’s need. This means up to 850 households could receive help, depending on the allocation of funds.
