Covid-19 cases in Pendle

Covid-19 cases in Pendle remain high, with 232 positive cases being recorded in the last 7 days.

The age group that has recorded the most new cases is 10 – 19 year olds with 43 cases. This is followed by 30 – 39 year olds with 37 cases, and the 40 – 49 age group with 36 cases.

The latest seven-day infection rate across Pendle, based on the cases for every 100,000 people, now stands at 253.9. This is down slightly on the 284.3 reported last week.

Sadly, there have been two reported deaths this week within 28 days of receiving a positive test.

Since Tuesday, 30 November, new precautionary measures have been put in place by the government following the emergence of the Omicron variant of Covid-19, to slow its spread.

The new measures are:

  • You must wear face coverings on public transport and in shops and other settings such as banks, post offices and hairdressers.
  • All close contacts of anyone who has tested positive for the Omicron variant must isolate for 10 days regardless of whether you have been vaccinated.
  • International travellers arriving into the country will need to take a PCR test on or before day 2 and self-isolate until they have received a negative test result.

The UK’s vaccination programme is being significantly ramped up which means booster jabs will be offered to all over 18s, and the gap between the second dose and booster reduced from six to three months.

Children aged 12 to 15 will also be invited for a second dose three months after their first, while people with a weakened immune system will be offered a fourth vaccine dose.

We’re encouraging everyone to take up the offer of the vaccine, which remains the best way to protect yourself, friends and family from winter viruses so you can enjoy the festive season.

Remember, Barkerhouse Pharmacy in Nelson is currently running walk-ins seven days a week for anyone eligible for their first or second vaccine dose, as well as the booster and flu jabs.

If you are now eligible for your flu jab, you will be eligible to get your booster too. The two jabs can be given at the same time.
