Christmas programme

Is your child aged between 5 and 16 and in receipt of benefits-related free school meals?

If so, they may be eligible for free activities and food through the Fun Vibes, Active Lives programme, Pendle’s Holiday Activities and Food scheme which is running through the Christmas holidays.

A range of providers will deliver sessions such as sports, creative activities, and even a pantomime trip providing opportunities for children and young people to keep active and occupied.

The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, funded by the Department for Education, also provides free, nutritious meals for those eligible.

Some providers are offering paid-for places to children and young people wanting to take advantage of the activities during the winter break.

Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Council, said: “It’s really important that we are able to support families in Pendle during the Christmas break.

“School holidays can be particularly daunting times for some because of increased costs - such as food and childcare - and reduced incomes.

“This fantastic scheme gives our youngsters access to a range of fun activities.”

Evidence shows these free holiday clubs have a positive impact on the physical and mental health of children and young people.

Alison Goode, Pendle Leisure Trust’s Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to once again to be working on this important project with Pendle Council – and involved as one of the providers of activities.

“It’s great that the programme can provide children and young people with the opportunity to participate in activities they would not normally have access to.”
