Councillors to consider Pendle’s budget proposals

Pendle’s councillors will be updated on the Council’s current financial position at the Policy and Resources meeting on Thursday (25 November).
They will be reminded of the significant pressures the Council continues to face and the next steps needed to deliver a balanced budget next year.
The Council’s latest Medium Term Financial Plan for 2023/24 shows an estimated funding shortfall of £3.04m which includes a funding shortfall of £1.42m for 2021/22.
This forecast means that councillors have to make some tough decisions.
Richard Gibson, Chief Financial Officer for Pendle Council, explained: “Given the financial constraints facing the Council it’s important we explore ways to generate additional income and to help protect frontline services from larger cuts.
“We’re also asking councillors to consider creating a Pendle Transformation Programme so that we can review and redesign our services around residents’ needs.”
Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Council, said: “Our priority is to provide good quality services to our residents and businesses.
“At our meeting we’ll have a look at the proposals put forward by Management Team. No decisions have been made yet.”
