The best way to protect yourself and others from both Covid-19 and flu this winter is to get vaccinated.

The Covid-19 virus survives for longer in cold air and forms smaller particles which linger in the air, increasing the risk of airborne transmission in winter.

There is also much greater risk of viruses spreading in enclosed spaces as there is often poor ventilation inside at this time of year.

We’re continuing to encourage people to meet outdoors where possible, and if indoors to open windows for short bursts.

Taylors and Barkerhouse pharmacies in Nelson are taking drop-ins for Covid-19 and flu vaccines, for those currently eligible.

GP practices are also running clinics for their patients. They will contact you directly when your vaccination is due.
