“Featuring on bus shelters, billboards and on social media, the campaign is designed to encourage young people across the borough to have the vaccine,” explained Council Leader, Councillor Nadeem Ahmed

“I’d like to offer a heart-felt thank you to all the young people who’ve volunteered to help in our campaigns, including this recent one on the importance of getting vaccinated,” he said.

Usman Muhammad from Nelson is one of the young people who’ve helped to promote vaccinations locally, featuring in a video and appearing on local radio.

Usman has just completed his studies at Nelson and Colne College and hopes to study medicine at the University of Liverpool from September. 

He features on a bus shelter advert on Leeds Road in Nelson and is soon to appear on a billboard in Colne.

Usman said:  “My parents are proud that I’ve been part of this campaign.”

As an area which has had a high number of Covid cases, people in Pendle have more options to get vaccinated in their local neighbourhood.

Walk-in vaccination centres are open at Barkerhouse and Taylors Pharmacies in Nelson, with no appointment or NHS number needed.

And the mobile unit will be in Barnoldswick at the Co-op car park on Saturday 7 August from 10am – 4pm to give second dose Pfizer jabs.

Lancashire County Council’s Community Engagement Team will be out in Barnoldswick and Nelson on Friday and Saturday door knocking and chatting to people about the local vaccination units.

They’ll also be handing out leaflets about the vaccine to help answer any questions.

People who are eligible for the vaccine can book their appointment online or attend one of the walk-in centres.

Councillor Ahmed said: “For anyone who didn’t take up the offer of a vaccination when they were first asked, don’t worry, it’s not too late!”
