A family fun day which aims to bring Pendle’s diverse communities together is taking place on Saturday 24 July.

Pendle Festival of Culture is taking place along Market Street in Nelson town centre between 11.30am and 8pm.

This year the Festival will feature a spectacular line-up of local musicians and performers throughout the day.

This includes the Blow Jangles, Emma Mould, Arian Sadir Bayan Ensemble, African drumming and an acrobatic display.

There will also be interactive art workshops, craft stalls, face painting, puppet show, storytelling, street food, spoken word and funfair rides!

Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Council, said: “Please come along and join us at this fantastic event.

“Although we’ll have taken the final step out of the Government’s roadmap we must remain cautious as rates in Pendle are high.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together to celebrate our cultures, communities and reconnect with our friends and loved ones.

“But it’s important we continue to take sensible steps because we can still spread the virus to one another.”

Kicking off the day, the Pendle Peace Walks will guide two groups of people starting from Brierfield and Colne.

They will amble along scenic countryside routes until they reach Nelson’s iconic Shuttle in Nelson town centre.

To join the Brierfield to Nelson walk, meet at 10am at the main entrance of Pendleside Hospice on Colne Road, BB10 2LW.

And to join the Colne to Nelson walk, meet at St Bartholomew’s Church, 28 Ivegate, Church Street, Colne, BB8 0LQ

Katie Nolan, Community Development Officer from Building Bridges, said: “The walks will be a fantastic opportunity to get together with friends and family as well as meet new friends whilst taking in Pendle’s beautiful scenery.”

Flag making kits are available for groups and families to decorate at home and bring on the walk!
