Pendle people aged 18 and over are being urged to get vaccinated and keep getting tested for the virus as Covid cases have more than doubled over the last week.

Last week there were 189 new cases and this week there are nearly 300 - with 291 people testing positive in Pendle.

Covid cases have been increasing weekly for six weeks in a row and for the last two weeks the age group with most cases is 10 - 19 and 20-29 year olds.

Very sadly this week, for the first time since late March, there has been one death within 28 days of a positive Covid test.

Due to the rising cases including the Delta variant, the Government has identified Pendle as an area for enhanced support.

This includes street teams out in the community from next week.

The teams will talk to people about vaccinations, testing and continuing to follow the  Government's hands, face, space and fresh air guidance.

Some pharmacies in Pendle are open this week for drop-in first time vaccinations.

These include Barkerhouse Road Pharmacy in Nelson for Pfizer vaccinations and Taylors on Leeds Road in Nelson for Moderna vaccinations.

Details on how to get a vaccination locally are on Pendle Council's website:  www.pendle.gov.uk/covidvaccination
