Philips Lane in Colne closed because of dangerous building

Published: Thursday, 29th April 2021

Philips Lane in Colne has been temporarily closed because of concerns a building could collapse.

Lancashire County Council closed the road in both directions on Friday evening (23 April) as soon as the imminent risk to public safety was identified.

Pendle Council has contacted residents on Philips Lane to alert them to the potential danger and the occupants of the building have moved out.

Neil Watson, Pendle Council’s Planning, Economic Development and Regulatory Services Manager, said: “This is a very serious situation so we had no choice but to close the road.

“There are alternative routes but we understand that they may not be convenient for some people.

“We are working with structural engineers to secure the building and remove any danger of it collapsing.

“We’ll re-open the road as quickly as we can but only when it is safe to do so - public safety must come first.”
