One-off grants of up to £6,000 are available for non-essential retail businesses which qualify.

And grants of up to £18,000 are available for hospitality, accommodation, leisure, gyms and personal care services such as hairdressers to apply for.

Pendle Council’s Chief Executive Dean Langton said:

“Already well over 300 Pendle businesses have applied for these grants since they went live on Thursday 1 April and we are encouraging more to apply.

“It’s vital that businesses make the most of the support available to help them re-open in a Covid-19 secure way, protecting themselves, their customers and their staff,” he explained.

“Our team will be working hard to process payments quickly so that businesses get the financial support they need as soon as possible,” he added.

Pendle Council is asking businesses to allow 14 – 21 days before contacting the Council to see if they are successful - because there will be hundreds in the system to process. 

Businesses which were locked down between 16 Feb and 31 March can also look into applying for Local Restrictions Grants and Additional Restrictions Grants and must apply by 31 May.

“The grants will play a big part in re-opening our local economy when more restrictions lift,” stated Dean Langton.

If the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown goes according to plan, from 12 April:

•    Hospitality venues like pubs and cafes will be allowed to serve people outdoors without the need to order a substantial meal and with no curfew. 

     Food and drink businesses must provide table service so that people can eat and drink whilst seated, with people from their own household.

•    Non-essential retail and personal care services such as barbers, hairdressers and nail salons can re-open

•    Indoor leisure facilities including gyms can re-open for use by people on their own or in their household groups

•    Self-contained accommodation such as self-catering holiday accommodation and campsites can re-open. 

From 17 May, if progress along the Government roadmap is not delayed, more businesses will be able to re-open.

Indoor eating and drinking in pubs and restaurants will be allowed, with table service only.

Indoor venues such as children’s play areas, hostels and B&Bs and indoor adult group sports and exercise classes can re-start.

“Keeping up with washing hands regularly and ventilating rooms has a big part to play in reducing the spread of the virus too,” he added.

“Covid-19 is still with us and if cases increase then the Government may change its roadmap and restrictions may lift later than planned,” he warned.
