The event is being organised by The Office for National Statistics (ONS) to raise awareness of Census Day which is on Sunday March 21.

Iconic landmarks including the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, BT Tower in London and Blackpool Tower are also signed up for the celebration.

They will light up in the Census 2021 brand colour from Friday March 19 until Sunday March 21 – Census Day.

Councillor Mohammed Iqbal MBE, Leader of Pendle Council, said: “The census is a hugely important survey which happens every 10 years.

“It gives a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales and helps inform the provision of public services throughout the UK, such as how many school places and hospital beds are needed.

“Please take the time to complete the form. Without your input we won’t have a full picture of what we need in Pendle.

“If English isn’t your first language, help is available in many different languages.”

Every household in England and Wales will now be receiving their census letters with unique access codes enabling them to fill in their census online.  

Councillor Iqbal added: “Although Census Day is March 21, you can fill yours in as soon as you receive your letter if you’re confident there will be no change in who usually lives in your household.  

“Paper forms are available for those who need it, plus a range of other support, including translations.”

“We’re shining a (purple!) light on the buildings and landmarks in local areas, highlighting the importance of the census in helping shape the communities we live in.

“We’re thrilled with all the support we’ve received so far and would like to thank Pendle Council for taking part.

“Now is the time for everyone to complete their census and be part of history.”

Nelson’s clock tower will light up in purple on Friday 19 March until Sunday 21 March.

The next census will be held on 21st March 2021 in England and Wales and results will be available the following year. However personal records will be locked away for 100 years, kept safe for future generations.
