The Government has announced that Pendle and the rest of Lancashire will remain in the highest tier of restrictions in England – Tier 3.

Councillor Mohammed Iqbal MBE said:
“I’m disappointed that Pendle has not been moved into Tier Two.

“But the infection rate in Pendle is still high. And sadly 143 people Pendle people have died from Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic,” he stated.

Information on the Tier 3 regulations is on Pendle Council’s website www.pendle.gov.uk/coronavirus  which includes details of how to get a test locally.

“We must follow the rules and do it for Pendle to help our area move into a lower tier, with less restrictions in future,” added Councillor Iqbal.

Councillor Mohammed Iqbal stressed: “It’s been such a tough year for everyone and we know how important this time is for everyone - but please look after each other.
“By taking some sensible steps you can enjoy Christmas and keep everyone safe,” he said.

And Pendle Council is continuing to share stay safe guidance including:

•    If you’re using public transport to meet with friends and family ensure you take hand sanitiser with you, wear a face covering and keep 2m from other passengers not in your
     household or bubble

•    Opening two windows will keep your house ventilated and reduce the risk of the virus spreading.

•    We know it’s hard but please avoid hugging and shaking hands

•    Remember to wash your hands regularly and clean surfaces and contact points like door handles regularly.
