Safety screens for Pendle taxis

Published: Thursday, 29th October 2020

Pendle taxis are being fitted with perspex safety screens to protect drivers and passengers by helping to reduce the transmission of Covid-19.

“On 20th and 21st October screens were fitted to half of our licensed taxi fleet,” said Councillor David Clegg, Chair of Pendle Council’s Taxi Licensing Sub-Committee.

“This is an important safety measure which should play a part in reducing the spread of the virus,” he said.

It is now the law for taxi passengers to wear a face covering, and taxi drivers are being urged to wear a face covering too.

“Infections in Pendle and the rest of Lancashire are among the highest in the country,” he warned.

“Every step we can take to reduce the spread is vital in protecting people in our community,” he added.

The screens are being provided free of charge.

And the screens are being fitted by the suppliers.

“We still have screens available for any taxi drivers or companies in Pendle which missed the October fitting,” said David.

“We are urging taxi drivers to get the job done as soon as possible to protect themselves and their customers,” he stated.

The free perspex screens are available for all licensed hackney carriage and private hire vehicle owners in Pendle, however it is not compulsory to have a screen fitted.
