Stay safe at Eid and stop the spread of Covid-19

As Eid al-Adha approaches, Pendle Council is reminding local people that restrictions and new rules are in place to reduce the spread of coronavirus.
Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, Leader of Pendle Council said:
“Our Muslim religious festival of Eid al-Adha - also known as Little Eid - starts on the evening of Thursday 30 July and finishes on the evening of Monday 3 August.
“Eid al-Adha will need to be celebrated differently this year in Pendle,” he explained.
“That’s why we’re encouraging people who are celebrating Eid to take part in outdoor prayers if possible.
“People should only attend indoor prayers which are strictly Covid-secure,” he stated.
“And it’s vitally important that people do not gather outside or inside mosques either before or after prayers.
“People can also take part in this important event at home, with their own household and can take part in the celebration online,” he added.

“The new set of rules to stop the virus from spreading apply to everyone in Pendle,” he said.
The rules include:
Keeping a safe 2m distance from people not in your household
Avoiding handshakes and embracing when meeting others
Avoiding family and group gatherings indoors and overnight stays
Washing your hands regularly using soap and water and carrying hand sanitiser when you go out
Dean Langton, Chief Executive of Pendle Council said: “We agreed the new five point plan with colleagues in the NHS and Lancashire County Council and community organisations and the Government has endorsed it.
“People must stick to them to protect themselves, their families and colleagues and everyone in our community.
“The rules include wearing a face covering in enclosed public spaces.
“We are doing all we can keep people safe across Pendle,” added Councillor Iqbal.
“We will have mobile ad vans with stay safe messages in different parts of Pendle including outside mosques.
“And we will be sending out a flier to all homes in Pendle and messages will be sent to people via their mobile phones and out via Whatsapp, Facebook and Twitter and via the local media.
“The message is: Let’s do it for Pendle. We do not want to risk another spike in cases here,” he warned.
