More Pendle businesses receive business rates holiday

Published: Tuesday, 5th May 2020

Pendle businesses eligible for Expanded Retail Discount and Nursery Discount have been sent amended bills highlighting they have no business rates to pay in 2020/21.

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the Government announced that it would increase the discount to 100% and extend it to include the leisure and hospitality sectors.

Following the announcement of further measures to limit the spread of coronavirus, the Government confirmed that all retail, leisure, and hospitality properties which had to close are now eligible for the discount.

A separate discount scheme was also introduced for childcare nurseries.

Pendle Council has identified those businesses it considers eligible for the discount and has automatically applied it for 2020/21.

Updated bills have been sent to the addresses the Council has on its records.

Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, Leader of Pendle Council, said: “If you haven’t received a revised bill and you feel you qualify for the discount please read the guidance to see if you’re entitled to it.

“The Government has clearly set out which businesses should receive the discount.

“Once you’ve read the guidance, if you still feel the business rates holiday applies to you, contact us by emailing business.rates@pendle.gov.uk so that we can look into it for you.

“We’re working with businesses across Pendle during this difficult time.
