Pendle Council’s leader urges residents to pray at home

With Ramadan just days away Pendle Council’s leader is urging Muslim residents to continue to stay at home and pray.
“All places of worship, including mosques, have closed their doors to worshippers to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
“I know that this is a very difficult time for everyone, but please continue to stay safe and pray at home especially during Ramadan.
“Many imams from local mosques are providing live online services so please join them that way!”
Councillor Iqbal stressed that everyone has a duty to follow the Government’s request to stay at home in order to protect the NHS and save lives.
Under the current Government guidelines people should only leave the house for very limited reasons.
These are shopping for basic necessities, one form of exercise a day, medical need or travelling for work purposes.
And he’s urging residents to follow the instruction and to avoid getting together with people outside of their immediate household to celebrate when Ramadan starts this weekend.
Inspector Scott Boast said: “We know it’s disappointing but it’s extremely important that family gatherings do not take place during the current health crisis.
“I also put out a plea to parents.
“During Ramadan it’s common for children to be roaming the streets at night when they’re walking to and from the mosque.
“They have no excuse to be out so please make sure your children stay at home.”
