Financial measures in place for those affected by coronavirus lockdown

Individuals and businesses affected by the coronavirus lockdown can get support thanks to a range of measures including Government funding.
“We know that this is a very tough time for many people including the self-employed,” said Leader of the Council, Councillor Mohammed Iqbal.
“There is a package of support available to help,” he announced.
Measures include:
• Applying to the Department for Work and Pensions for Universal Credit
• Applying to Pendle Council for Council Tax Support
• The option to pay Council Tax over 12 months instead of 10 to spread the cost
• The possibility of payment holidays of up to two months or the option to spread payments across instalments for people finding it hard to pay their Council Tax.
And the Council Tax Hardship Fund will help reduce the Council Tax bill by up to £150 for working age people who receive local Council Tax Support.
It will also provide some funding to help cut the Council Tax burden on those struggling financially due to the current crisis.

Councillor Iqbal added: “We’ve already announced a support package for businesses.
“And we are alerting people to the Government’s launch of an Expanded Retail Discount Scheme.
“This will provide 100% business rates relief to certain businesses in the retail, leisure and hospitality sectors.
“This new measure is for 2020/21 and does not depend on the rateable value of the business.
“Business Ratepayers who are not eligible for the 100% business rates discount do have the option to spread payments over 12 months instead of 10,” he added.
