Garden waste collections spring into action in Pendle!

Gardeners on Pendle Council’s garden waste collection scheme are being reminded to start putting their green bins out again from March onwards.

Leader of Pendle Council, Councillor Mohammed Iqbal said:
We are springing into action as the days grow longer and our crews will be back on the road from the 2nd March helping people to recycle their garden waste.
“Anyone who is signed up to the popular fortnightly service can start putting their green bin out on their normal collection day,” he explained.

Carole Taylor, Pendle Council’s Waste and Recycling Co-ordinator said:
“Gardeners can remind themselves about what they can and can’t put into their green bin by checking their recycling and waste calendars or by visiting our website www.pendle.gov.uk/gardenwaste
“Things like twigs and small branches which have come down during the recent storms can go in, as can things people might not expect, like rabbit bedding,” she explained.
Stephen Hargreaves from the Council’s Gardening Services Team is sharing some of their gardening tips for March.
“This is the time of year to put some fresh compost onto your containers and pots to help growth.
“And once the ground is not waterlogged or frozen - hopefully that will be soon - use a light rake to remove any winter debris from your lawn!”
Anyone not on the scheme already can apply to join from March via Pendle Council’s website.
The cost for the subsidised nine month service is £33 – less than £1.74 per collection and is still one of the cheapest garden waste collections in the country.
Councillor Iqbal added:
“By subscribing to the garden waste collection scheme you are doing an extra bit for Pendle and the environment, helping us to reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfill.
Pendle Council has pledged to tackle the environmental crisis which is affecting us locally, nationally and globally and declared a Climate Emergency last year.
“We collect over 2,500 tonnes of garden waste which is made into compost and Pendle gardeners can help us to recycle more,” he added.
