You don’t need to register twice

Published: Monday, 25th November 2019

Residents who registered to vote for the elections in May don’t need to register again to vote in the General Election unless you’ve moved house.

That’s the message from Philip Mousdale, Pendle Council’s Returning Officer and Corporate Director.

He said: “After the Leaders’ Debate we had a spike in applications and in the last 24 hours we’ve received more than 240 from people wishing to register to vote - two thirds of these are duplicates.

“If you registered to vote in the May elections you don’t need to register again unless your circumstances have changed.

“But if you haven’t registered to vote and want to have your say in the General Election, you have until 11.59pm tomorrow (26 November).”

Registering to vote is easy and can be done online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Poll cards have been despatched for the General Election which will take place on Thursday 12 December.

If you haven’t received yours yet, you can check if you’re on the electoral register by calling (01282) 661662 or emailing elections@pendle.gov.uk and staff in our Elections Team will check it for you.
