Pendle Community Safety Partnership urges drivers to Step up for safe streets

Pendle Community Safety Partnership is supporting this year’s Road Safety Week (18 – 24 November).
Co-ordinated by road safety charity Brake, this year’s campaign urges people to step up to reduce the number of incidents on Pendle’s roads.
This can be done by:
- leaving the car at home, to help improve safety as well as air quality
- making sure your car is roadworthy
- being a safer driver by keeping within the speed limits and never drinking or taking drugs when driving.
Every 20 minutes someone is killed or seriously injured on a British road, yet each of these tragedies is preventable.
Between April and December 2018, there were 169 road traffic collisions in Pendle – 29 people were seriously injured or killed.
Sarah Astin -Wood, Localities and Policy Manager, said: “Each of these tragedies has a devastating effect on families and local communities.
“Road Safety Week 2019 highlights how things like safety technology in vehicles which prevent speeding, speed limits and well-designed cycling paths and footpaths allow us to get around in a safe and healthy way every day.”
