Pendle Council has launched an online service which means residents can access their council tax account online.

The service, which encourages council tax payers to save time do it online, is available on the Council’s website – www.pendle.gov.uk/counciltaxonline

And now residents can help the Council in its bid to be more environmentally friendly by signing up to receive bills via email rather than through the post.

Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, Leader of Pendle Council, is championing the service.

He said: “Accessing your council tax account online is free, fast, reliable and secure and means you no longer have to call or visit the Council.

“And now we can offer e-billing it means we can save paper so it’s better for the environment and the cost per transaction is less for the Council, helping us to save money!”

Latest council tax bills have a unique code called an online key which can be found at the top right hand corner of each bill.

It’s this code which gives residents access to their online council tax account.

Using the online service residents can:

  • check how much they owe
  • register for e-billing
  • make payments
  • let us know if they’ve moved
  • apply for a single person discount
  • set up to pay by Direct Debit.

Councillor Iqbal stressed: “If you register for e-billing and you’re jointly liable with another person for council tax, you need to ask the other person to register for e-billing too.

“You could be joint owners or joint tenants of a property, husband and wife, or a couple living as husband and wife.

“If you don’t both register for e-billing, we’ll need to continue to send a paper bill through the post.”

The website includes lots of help and advice including frequently asked questions and specific guides to take people through the process.
