Recycle more plastics message to 39,000 homes

Published: Tuesday, 12th November 2019

You can help us recycle more plastics! That’s the message going out to 39,000 homes in Pendle.

Carole Taylor Pendle Council’s Waste and Recycling Co-ordinator said:
“We are hand delivering Pendle’s annual recycling and refuse collection calendars between now and Sunday 1st December.

The calendar also shows any changes to collections over Christmas and New Year,” Carole added:
“So please don’t recycle the new calendar yet!

“Keep it on your fridge door or somewhere where you can check details when you need to,” she added.

“We’re using the calendars to remind people that they can now recycle clean plastic food pots, tubs and trays,” she explained.

“This means that things like the plastic chocolate and biscuit tubs people give at Christmas can now go into the brown bins – once they are empty!” Said Carole.

“And the plastic trays which hold mince pies can now go into the brown recycling bins, too, along with clean foil containers,” she added.

“Don’t forget to remove film or cling film lids first and any absorbent bottoms from food trays as these need to go into your grey waste bin,” said Carole.

Recycling more plastic in Lancashire is now possible thanks to improvements at Lancashire County’s plant at Leyland where Pendle’s plastic, glass bottles, jars and cans are processed for recycling.

Pendle Council is urging local people to keep their calendars handy once they land on the doormat because they flag up what can and cannot be recycled in Pendle’s blue and brown bins.

“It’s easy to check which items go in which bin and don’t forget we don’t want plastic bags in recycling bins,” explained Carole.

“Pendle people have a vital part to play in helping us to recycle it right,” she stressed.

The information is also on Pendle Council’s website www.pendle.gov.uk/recycling including how to find out when your collection days are online.
“Pendle recycles over 10,000 tonnes of waste per year which would otherwise end up in a landfill site.

"Thanks to being able to recycle more plastic, the amount we recycle is increasing,” said Carole.
