Barrowford residents have the chance to vote on whether to adopt the Barrowford Neighbourhood Plan in a referendum on Thursday 14 November.

The Neighbourhood Plan will help the local community to have an influence on planning decisions that affect the areas where they live and work.

The Plan has been prepared by Barrowford Parish Council and approved, with modification, by an independent examiner.

If given the thumbs up by voters it will be the second Neighbourhood Plan to be adopted in Pendle.

Neil Watson, Planning, Economic Development and Regulatory Services Manager, said:  “If adopted, planning officers will refer to the Plan when considering any applications for planning permission.”

Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, Leader of Pendle Council, added: “The Plan focuses on protecting the best of the built and natural environment and designates a new shopping frontage in the Newbridge area of Barrowford.”

Voting takes place on Thursday 14 November when Barrowford residents will be asked:

Do you want Pendle Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Barrowford to help it decide planning applications in the Neighbourhood Area?

A simple majority of the votes cast will see the Plan either adopted or rejected.

Copies of the Plan and supporting documents are available to view at:

  • Barrowford Parish Council, Holmefield House, Gisburn Road, Barrowford, BB9 8ND
  • Barrowford Public Library, Ann Street, Barrowford, BB9 8QH
  • Pavillion Café, Victoria Park, Carr Road, Barrowford, BB9 7SS

The Plan is also available to view on Barrowford Parish Council’s website -www.barrowford.org.uk/parish-council/np

Voting in the referendum will be similar to voting in Pendle Council elections. To be eligible to vote you must live in Barrowford and be registered to vote.

Polling stations will be printed on the poll cards.
