Do you know anyone or an organisation which has gone the extra mile in Pendle? Our Mayor wants to recognise their efforts!

His Worship the Mayor of Pendle, Councillor Ken Hartley, wants to put the spotlight on the area's unsung heroes and is looking for your help.

The deadline to nominate a person or organisation for the inaugural awards ceremony in October is Thursday 12 September.

Councillor Hartley said: "Every day people and organisations are doing some wonderful work and make an extraordinary difference in Pendle. This very often goes unrecognised.

"I've launched the Mayor’s Commendation Awards so that we can change this and say a big thank you to those who go the extra mile and make an outstanding contribution.

“This could range from someone in a youth theatre making a difference to live theatre to someone who has consistently put an immense time and effort into their chosen field of activity.

“We’ve already received some fantastic nominations but we’d like to receive more.

“If you know of anyone who deserves to be recognised please nominate them by Thursday 12 September.”

There are seven categories and you can nominate in more than one category at a time.

  • Young Person Award
  • Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Community Involvement Award
  • Business, Industry and Commerce Award
  • Environment Award
  • Contribution to Art and Culture
  • Sport Award

Councillor Hartley added: “When making your nomination you’ll need to explain why your nominee should receive a civic award.

“You’ll also need to supply two letters from people who support your proposal.”

The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 17 October.
