Alkincoats Park needs you!

Published: Thursday, 14th July 2016

If you enjoy volunteering and being outdoors why not consider becoming a Friend of your local park?

Pendle Council is proud of its parks and together with its Friends groups works hard to maintain them and ensure they’re places everyone can enjoy.

The next Friends of Alkincoats Park meeting is taking place on Monday 18th July at Colne Town Hall from 7pm and everyone is welcome to attend.

Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, who oversees communities, parks and recreation in Pendle, said: “Friends of the Parks are volunteers who dedicate some of their time and energy into caring for and improving their local park.

“The types of projects the volunteers get involved with include bulb planting and general parks maintenance, to running events and activities or helping bid for funding.”

Being a Friend of the Parks isn't just about getting your hands dirty; the groups need people of all ages and backgrounds with financial, organisational and administrative skills too.

Julie Hibbert, Pendle Council’s Events and Community Liaison Officer, said: “We’re so grateful to anyone who can spare a little bit of time to come and help us.

“What you’ll get in return is a friendly welcome, a little bit of exercise, some chat - and a warm brew when the work is done!

“And for anyone who’s currently looking for work, volunteering experience looks great on a CV.”
