Voter registration - look out for your Annual Registration Form

Canvassers working for Pendle Council have begun delivering the Annual Electoral Registration Forms, also known as Household Enquiry Forms, to homes across Pendle.
And you’re urged to complete your form and return it as soon as possible to continue to have your say on the things that matter to you.
Rachel Wilkinson, Elections Assistant, explained: “This is part of the annual voter registration process and you’re legally required to complete it.
“Every year you must check that your details are correct on the form and update them if necessary. If you don’t, you risk losing your right to vote.”
Forms are being delivered until Friday 26 July and responses are needed by Monday 12 August.
If the details are all correct you can confirm them by calling a freephone number, sending a text message or visiting the dedicated website – details of these are printed on the forms.
You can also update the details of people living at your property via the website.
It couldn’t be more convenient as telephone, text and internet registration are all available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Alternatively, you can use the more traditional method of signing and returning the form in the post.
If you find any incorrect details on the form other than the names of people at your address, you need to write in the changes, sign the form and return it to us by post. You don’t need a stamp.
Rachel added: “If you’re not currently registered, your name will not appear on the form.
“If you want to register, the easiest way is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote”
Philip Mousdale, Electoral Registration Officer and Corporate Director, said: “I’d encourage everyone to complete their forms by 12 August.
“Any households which haven’t responded by then will be visited by staff with a reminder letter. You can help us to avoid the additional cost of this.”
Anyone who has moved address recently is particularly encouraged to keep an eye out for the form and check the details.
Research by the independent Electoral Commission indicates that recent home movers are far less likely to be registered than those that have lived at the same address for a long time.
If your name is not included in the electoral register, you will not be able to vote in elections. You may also find it difficult to get a mortgage or credit, or to open a bank account.
