Pendle Council gets tough on nuisance neighbour

A noisy Nelson resident has been silenced after ignoring a Noise Abatement Notice asking him to stop making noise late at night.
The Halifax Road resident had a large screen television and three sets of speakers removed by Pendle Council’s Environmental Health Team last Tuesday.
It follows complaints from an immediate neighbour about loud rock and dance music being played for long periods during the early hours of the morning.
The resident was also shouting and encouraging his dog to bark.
He was issued with a Noise Abatement Notice in April which warned him to stop being noisy or risk having equipment removed from his home.
But he continued to cause a noise nuisance which was witnessed by Pendle Council’s Environmental Health team and the Pennine Lancashire Night-time Noise Service.
And on 5 July Burnley Magistrates Court provided a warrant to enter his property to remove the equipment being used to make the noise.
Councillor David Clegg, who has responsibility for Environmental Services in Pendle, said: “This resident has acted with total disregard for his neighbours, making their lives a misery.
“The noise could clearly be heard in the neighbouring property and it went on for prolonged periods into the early hours of the morning.
“Our Environmental Health Team has been working with the neighbours to try and bring about an end to their ordeal.
“I’m pleased that the Magistrates agreed that enough is enough and granted a warrant to enter the property and remove the equipment.
“Please let this be a warning to others that we will not tolerate noise nuisance in Pendle.”
