You don’t need to register twice to vote

Residents who’ve registered to vote in the local elections on 2 May don’t need to register again to vote in the European Parliamentary elections.
Philip Mousdale, Corporate Director and Returning Officer for Pendle Council, stressed: “If you’ve already registered to vote in the local elections you don’t need to register again unless your circumstances have changed such as you’ve moved house or changed your name.
“But if you haven’t registered to vote and want to have your say in the European Parliamentary elections on 23 May you must register by Tuesday 7 May.
“If you’re a European Union citizen living in the North West you can vote in either the United Kingdom or in your country of origin but not both.
“To vote in the United Kingdom, you must be registered to vote and have completed an additional form called a UC1.”
Pendle Council has sent this form to all EU citizens registered to vote in the borough. It can also be downloaded from www.northwestvotes.gov.uk
You can check if you’re on the electoral register at Number One Market Street, Nelson or view it at Nelson, Colne and Barnoldswick libraries.
Alternatively, call the elections office on (01282) 661662 and staff in our Elections Team will check it for you.
