Not too late! You can still sign up for garden waste service

Published: Wednesday, 29th June 2016

The new garden waste collection starts from 1st July and Pendle Council is letting gardeners know it's not too late to sign up!

Councillor David Clegg who leads on recycling explained:

“Well over 6,000 people have signed up for the popular fortnightly garden waste collection and people are still contacting us to join or re-join the service.

“This is more than we had signed up at this point last year and as some people have more than one green bin there are more than 7,000 green bins out there helping us recycling more in Pendle.

“We’re keen to let Pendle people know it’s not too late to sign up to make the most of the summer and right through to 30th June 2017 by signing up now,” he said.

Carole Taylor, Pendle Council’s Waste Management Co-ordinator said: “The service costs less than 60p a week as the annual subscription is £30 per green bin.”

“The deadline was 17th June for the 1st July start, but we will endeavour to get a sticker out as soon as possible for those paying now, “ added Carole.

The easiest way to pay is online at www.pendle.gov.uk/gardenwaste  quoting the individual garden waste reference number in the letter.

Renewing subscribers can pay for their next year of fortnightly garden waste collections via
www.pendle.gov.uk/gardenwaste quoting the reference number on their renewal letter.

And new subscribers can simply key their address or postcode in to check that they are on the garden waste rounds or call our Contact Pendle centre on (01282) 661743.

This year subscribers can also use our automated telephone payment system by calling 01282 661743 and then when prompted pressing 1 to pay, via a credit or debit card.

New green bin stickers showing that people are entitled to the service should get to gardeners within 10 days.

“We know that thousands of people in Pendle who love to garden are keen for us to recycle their garden waste,” said Carole.
“We collect almost 3,000 tonnes of garden waste a year which is recycled into compost, helping us recycle more for Pendle,” she said.
